BOOKKEEPING · NEGRO BUSINESS GUIDE

Bookkeeping for small businesses: build a simple routine.

A regular routine is easier to maintain than a pile of records waiting for the end of the month.

Capture records as you go

Keep receipts and other supporting documents when a transaction happens. Record the date, amount, currency and reason while the details are fresh.

Choose a regular review time

Set aside a short, recurring period to enter missing transactions and organise documents. A routine that fits your workload is more useful than an ambitious schedule you cannot maintain.

Check completeness

Compare your entries with your payment records. Look for missing transactions, duplicates and unclear descriptions. Keep a short list of questions to resolve.

Make records easy to find

Use consistent filenames or references and keep related documents together. Protect access to business records and keep a suitable backup.

Know when you need more structure

As your business grows, you may need accounting support and more detailed reporting. Review your process with a bookkeeper or accountant instead of allowing unresolved questions to accumulate.
